Saul Williams – seit seinem Rick Rubin-produzierten Debüt Amethyst Rock Star (2001) die Stimme einer generationenübergreifenden Bewegung – verbindet wie kein Zweiter die Kraft des Poetry Slams mit der Radikalität des HipHop und der Tiefe avantgardistischer Musik. Seine Alben (darunter das kultige The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of NiggyTardust!) sind Manifeste gegen kulturelle Hegemonie, sein aktuelles MartyrLoserKing-Projekt eine multimediale Abrechnung mit digitaler Kolonialisierung. Als Schauspieler („Slam“), Buchautor und Performer an Orten wie dem Weißen Haus oder dem Louvre definiert Williams stets neu, was engagierte Kunst sein kann.
An seiner Seite: Carlos Niño, der Mann hinter André 3000s bahnbrechendem New Blue Sun und kreativer Kopf von Carlos Niño & Friends. Der in L.A. verwurzelte Percussionist und Produzent – Schüler von Geistern wie Pharoah Sanders und Alice Coltrane – formt seit zwei Jahrzehnten den Sound des zeitgenössischen Spiritual Jazz. Seine Arbeiten mit Kamasi Washington, Floating Points und seinem eigenen Build An Ark-Kollektiv bewegen sich an der Schnittstelle von freier Improvisation und heiliger Klangmeditation.

Ben Lasky – besser bekannt unter seinem Künstlernamen Quadeca – hat in seinem zarten Alter von 24 Jahren bereits mehrere erfolgreiche Karrieren aufgebaut. Ein virales YouTuber-Dasein mit knapp zwei Millionen Abonent:innen, musikalische Erfolge im strammen Takt und ein tiefes Verständnis von Musik, mit dem er sich als Produzent immer wieder neu erfindet und in seinem Mix aus Hip-Hop, Alternative- und Hyper-Pop eigene Welten erschafft. In seinen jüngsten Releases „Godstained“ und „Monday“ bewegt sich Quadeca weg von seinen bisherigen Rap-Wurzeln und präsentiert einen friedvollen, akustischen Sound – mit dem er in ein tiefgründiges nächstes Kapitel zu starten scheint. Für Dezember hat er nun die „Vanisher Horizon Scraper“-Tour angekündigt, mit der er auch in Berlin und Köln Station macht.

Alles begann mit dem Superhelden-Alter-Ego Quadeca und einem gleichnamigen YouTube-Kanal, auf dem Lasky Rap-Tracks, Musikvideos und Gaming-Videos hochgeladen hat. Die Followerzahlen explodieren schnell und machen ihn zu einem YouTube-Star. Und auch wenn genau das für viele der wahrgewordene Traum ist, wandte der US-Amerikaner sich von seinem Kanal ab – und hin zur Musik. Mit vier Mixtapes startet der Künstler in seine zweite Karriere, bevor er 2019 seinen experimentellen Sound mit „Voice Memos“ erstmals in Albumform gießt. Es folgen die Werke „From Me To You“ (2021), „I Didn’t Mean To Haunt You“ (2022) sowie das Mixtape „Scrapyard“ im vergangenen Jahr. Mit gewohnter Kreativität und Experimentierfreude ist Quadeca auch gerade wieder am Werk und teast in Rätseln eine mysteriöse Website an, die auf ein neues, ungewohnt ruhiges Projekt schließen lässt. Und für das schafft Quadeca Ende des Jahres auch gleich die perfekte Bühne – und zwar mit der „Vanisher Horizon Scraper“-Tour.

Die Grenzen zwischen Konzert und Club lösen sich auf. Nähe, Konzentration, Bewegung. Moderne klassische Musik entfaltet sich in einem Umfeld, das mehr Freiraum lässt – für Zuhören, Innehalten, Entdecken.
KLANG:RAUM:CLUB ist kein Crossover, sondern eine Einladung klassische Instrumente neu zu erleben – an einem Ort, der sonst anders klingt.

Apollonio Maiello ist ein italienisch-deutscher Komponist, der für seine außergewöhnliche musikalische Wandlungsfähigkeit bekannt ist – stets innovativ, dabei tief in der Tradition verwurzelt. Seine Werke erklingen auf renommierten Festivals und in Konzerthäusern weltweit. Zahlreiche namhafte Ensembles und Orchester beauftragten ihn mit Kompositionen, darunter auch internationale Kollaborationen, etwa mit der Grammy-nominierten Sängerin Becca Stevens. Maiello ist vielfach ausgezeichnet, u. a. mit dem Oginski-Kompositionspreis 2020 sowie renommierten Jazzpreisen.
Für diesen Abend hat sich Apollonio eine besondere Gästin eingeladen: die in Berlin lebende US-amerikanische Singer-Songwriterin, Multi-Instrumentalistin und Produzentin Marla Hansen. Als Bratschistin des New Yorker Streichquartetts Osso arbeitete sie u. a. mit Sufjan Stevens und The National zusammen. Ihre Soloalben Dust (2020) und Salt (2024) wurden von der Kritik gefeiert – Salt erhielt u. a. fünf Sterne vom Musik Express und wurde auf BBC6 und Radio Eins vorgestellt. Ihre Musik verbindet kunstvoll elektronische und akustische Songwelten – persönlich, kraftvoll, eigenwillig.
Ein Abend zwischen zeitgenössischer Komposition und atmosphärischem Songwriting – überraschend, poetisch und musikalisch grenzenlos.

As a musician, performer and label head Satori is a multifaceted artist of the purist kind, effortlessly combining all aspects of artistry into a persona capable of creating truly unique experiences for his audience. Being the child of a Serbian father and a South African mother, Satori has been consuming Balkan music as well as Afrobeat and everything in between from an early age, embedding diversity into his musical DNA. Pulling inspiration from a wide array of cultures has led Satori, born Djordje Petrovic, to push the boundaries of what electronic music can sound like, creating an otherworldly, distinctive style unmatched by any of his contemporaries.
After breaking onto the scene in 2015 with his In Between Worlds album, Satori has been steadily expanding on an impressive repertoire of music, culminating into the recently released Dreamin’ Colours album. An ethereal body of work rich in colour and texture, seamlessly blending electronic music with Satori’s Balkan heritage. Not long after, July 1st marked the launch of Maktub Records with Satori’s most recent single ‘Djelem Djelem’. ‘Djelem Djelem’ is an exclusive collaboration with EXIT Festival and the inaugural release on Satori’s very own imprint. Later in 2022, Satori is also expected to release his first music in collaboration with The Band from Space on the label.
Never limiting himself to being “just a DJ”, Satori has perfected the craft of live performance. Often combining his own productions with improvisation by incorporating traditional instruments like the guitar, keys or flute. Treating each performance as a blank canvas is what makes Satori’s shows dynamic and eclectic, leaving fans with an ever-lasting taste for more.
This unique approach has led Satori to become a mainstay on festival line-ups globally, from Coachella to EXIT Festival in Serbia as well as long-standing residencies on Ibiza. In 2022, Satori will be helming a brand new event concept, ‘A Starry Night’ at Club Chinois, one the latest additions to Ibiza’s bustling club scene. Described as an immerse, genre-defying experience, A Starry Night is poised to be one of the White Isle’s must-see events of the summer.
In contrast to popular belief about the electronic dance music scene, Satori has a vastly different perspective on how life as a traveling artist should be lived. A rigorous combination of exercise, yoga, meditation and sleep make up his daily regime and it is this devotion to mind and body that allows Satori to be on top of his game at all times. Jadu Heart are Diva-Sachy Jeffrey and Alex Headford, from London and Huddersfield respectively. Following in the footsteps of cult boy/girl bands before them, they have slowly been building their own world & an army of die-hard fans largely under the radar with their similarly modest label VLF Records.

Having moved from electronic shoegaze to psych-rock to grungey trip-hop across their two EPs and four albums they have covered the alternative music spectrum. Whilst the presentation can be varied and at times experimental, their melody is always appealing and it is this more than anything that saw them hit 600 million streams this year, tour the US with Fontaines DC and sell out their own shows at London Here at Outernet, Bristol Thekla and Manchester Band On The Wall.

BETWEEN FRIENDS exists as an experiment in boundless creativity from the brother-sister duo Brandon and Savannah Hudson. Together, they nudge the boundaries of experimental pop through a glitchy, eclectic sonic environment anchored in a musical partnership formed in their earliest childhood. In 2018 they emerged on the internet encapsulating the experience of adolescence over synth-laden bedroom pop. It’s a theme that weaves their discography together, evident on their debut EP we just need some time together, which catapulted them to international acclaim through standout track “affection” amassing over 600 million streams. In 2021, as a reaction to the confines of lockdown life, they transformed pent-up pandemic energy into i like when you shine!, a futuristic ode to the endangered art form of the mixtape. This was followed by their multimedia EP CUTiE, released in 2022, which saw them create a series of surreal, lo-fi visuals. Shortly after, they embarked on their sold out first tour, which included a performance at the Governor’s Ball, and allowed their online community of fans to finally convene in 3D. Das Werk der walisischen multidisziplinären Künstlerin, Produzentin und Sound-Architektin Cate Le Bon lässt sich schon lange nicht mehr kategorisieren. Auf sechs Alben, darunter das für den Mercury Prize nominierte "Reward" und zuletzt das von der Kritik hochgelobte "Pompeii", hat sie eine einzigartige Stimme entwickelt: teils Surrealistin, teils Bildhauerin, immer im Einklang mit den emotionalen Unterströmungen, die ihre Kunst prägen. Ihre Produktions-Credits - "Cousin" von Wilco, "Phonetics On and On" von Horsegirl, und St. Vincents mit einem Grammy ausgezeichnetes "All Born Screaming" - zeugen von ihrem tiefen Vertrauen in ihre Fähigkeit, Klangwelten in intime, eigenwillige Welten zu verwandeln.

Geboren im ländlichen Carmarthenshire, Wales, und jetzt in Cardiff ansässig, wurde Le Bons kreativer Weg sowohl von Einsamkeit als auch von Zusammenarbeit geprägt. ONLY MUSIC MAKES ME CRY NOW – Long LP Bio 
Thea Gustafsson — who writes, records, and produces under the moniker Becky and the Birds — is a disciplined person by nature, with her formal musical education at Musikmakarna Songwriters Academy of Sweden and avid violin-playing as a child inspiring her unending need for perfectionism. This rigid mindset deeply implanted itself in her craft and her life, though she refreshingly doesn’t see the point in holding herself to these standards as of late. This newfound freedom and change in pace are what made the debut Becky and the Birds album, ONLY MUSIC MAKES ME CRY NOW (due November 15), possible. In abandoning self-imposed expectation and being more open toward experimentation, Gustafsson has turned a new leaf, giving herself a chance to get out of her own head and make something led by an inherent trust in herself.
From her home in Stockholm, Gustafsson reflects on the grounding quality of nature, explaining how the changing of the seasons inspires her, reminding her of life’s malleability and persistent beauty. She prefers winter above all, as she spends most of her days during the colder months (as do most Swedes) holed up inside, in a mode of creative hypnosis. In the stillness, these are the moments when she feels most in her body, and most capable of reflection and channeling feeling in her art. Thus, she found the OMMMCN’s backbone take form on days when the sun might’ve peaked through the clouds for an hour at most, during a reprieve when she would traipse through the sludge of the frigid wasteland outside her door, watching the light bounce off the snow.
Self-belief and fearlessness are the core tenets that have always shaped the direction of Gustafsson’s art. Early in her professional career, Gustafsson recalls having felt a nagging sense of frustration while perched on couches in the back of studios, watching (what would primarily be male) producers fail at capturing what she was looking for. Despite lacking concrete technical knowledge and with a deep dislike of YouTube tutorials, Gustafsson took a leap of faith, beginning her own journey in production on a try-by-doing basis in 2016. “I just got very sick of being pushed back and decided to make something for myself,” she recalls. Using her ear as a beacon and trusting her gut, she quickly found a sense of comfortability in production, utilizing this process to commandeer her own musical destiny without fear. Soon thereafter, she composed the first Becky and the Birds self-titled EP (2018) and its follow-up Trasslig (2020, 4AD). In the time since, she has also collaborated with the likes of Dijon, Seinabo Sey, and Lapsley, among others.

With her earlier projects, Gustafsson recalls feeling brave enough to create without boundaries, without thinking about what anyone else would think. When laying the groundwork for OMMMCN in 2022, she reminded herself to go back to that same headspace: “As you know more and are known more, it becomes a process of learning to be brave again. You still need to find a place within yourself where you can ‘dance like no one’s watching,’” she laughs. In pushing herself to try new things within this framework, Gustafsson's innovative and distinct production style shines more than ever today, this being what predominantly sets the newest Becky and the Birds album apart. With tracks such as the ultra-layered and complex “everything,” she creates sonic worlds with the intention of staying curious and eager, a student of the craft despite her growing wealth of experience. In this way, she can continue to keep things fun, light, interesting, and above all, brave.

During the early days of OMMMCN’s creation, Gustafsson found herself needing to be brave in general, as she had just experienced the end of a relationship. In this turbulent moment — a period of starting over, re-establishing her individual self, and discovering what “home” meant to her — she felt inspired more than ever to create, to let it all out. “It’s cliche to say that [writing] can be a sort of therapy, but it really is,” she admits. “When I write about things going on in my life, this is my way actualizing them and finally processing. I needed to get it out of my body to take it all in.” OMMMCN thusly allows listeners to follow Gustafsson through this time of intense healing, covering the painful process of moving on without looking back on tracks such as “Won’t Do That.” Songs such as this find her obtaining newfound clarity, making space for ugly feelings such as grief and resentment but also giving herself grace throughout the process, reminiscing but never actually returning to that painful place. “I used to cry for love / But I’m tired of tears,” she laments on the record’s closing title-track, shutting that chapter of her life with finality.

Aiming to completely wipe the slate, Gustafsson also picked up her life physically during the writing process of OMMMCN, bouncing between London and Stockholm. Gaining insight from fuzzed-out West End club nights and dingy pubs showcasing obscure indie bands, she felt a deep sense of inspiration and embraced English music (from grunge to grime to hyper-pop) with open arms. During this period, she also continuously added to her collection of sampleable sound bites with the natural noise of bustling city life, as well as recordings from old phone conversations, demos, and voice memos (pieces of which can be heard throughout the record). This wide array of sonic material — combined with thematic influence from media she’d been consuming such Derek Cianfrance’s Blue Valentine, Charlotte Wells’ Aftersun, and Eckhart Tolle’s A New Earth — helped her shape the exploratory, desperate, passionate, romantic, and heart-wrenchingly vulnerable themes woven throughout the album. 

In the aftermath of its creation, Gustafsson feels as though she’s finally arrived “home,” able to open her heart to new and stabilizing relationships, in large part due to the growth she’s experienced throughout this process. Lead single, “when she holds me,” touches on this positive change, additionally invoking Gustafsson’s beloved snowy landscapes on a sonic level — sometimes, the cold winter air can feel like a smack in the face; here, she finds Jack Frost at his most tender amidst the track’s delicate finger-plucked strings and airy, soft-spoken vocals: “The world is wishing me well / As her fingers run through my hair.”
Currently, Gustafsson is reaping the rewards of an intense period of reflection and growth, releasing the tension she’s felt alongside forces who make her feel truly at peace. Today, she presents herself in advanced and contemplative form via an ethereal, erratic, heavy-hitting, and hypnotic collection of some of her best Becky and the Birds material to date.
