Join us for an intimate evening with South African singer, actress, and storyteller Zolani Mahola — a voice that has moved audiences across the world. As the former lead vocalist of Freshlyground, Zolani spent 17 years touring internationally and collaborating with artists such as Stevie Wonder, BB King, Shakira, Hugh Masekela, and Johnny Clegg — including her contribution to the global anthem Waka Waka (This Time for Africa).
Her work spans music, film, and theatre: from performing at Carnegie Hall to winning a Fleur du Cap Award for Best Actress and a South African Music Award for Best Produced Album for her solo debut Thetha Mama. She is an ambassador for the Seachange Project and co-creator of the Tribeca-recognised podcast Back To The Water.
This special night brings together a first listen of her new solo album People Power , an exclusive live performance and sharing of the stories behind the album.
Produced in collaboration with London-based, Grammy-nominated producer Hannah V, People Power delivers a uniquely South African sound to the world, moving seamlessly across Afro-pop, stadium anthems, Gqom, 3-Step, and acoustic ballads — all woven through with Zolani's proud Xhosa heritage and an irrepressible Afro-futuristic spirit.
“I was born 13 years before the fall of the Apartheid regime, and I clearly remember the massive unrest and political action of the late 80s and early 90s. Some of my family were involved in the anti-Apartheid movement, and even as a child, I joined some of the mass protests that brought about the end of that dehumanising system. One of the unifying cries at the time was the call and answer slogan “Amandla ngawethu!” which means “The Power is Ours”. It is a refrain that echoes deeply within me, and still feels so relevant today when we see countless examples around the world of blatant abuses and misuses of power. And at the same time, we see examples of people just like you and me standing up for what they believe in, mobilising in action and finding connection and strength in raising their voices together.”

Gschnas ist das vierte Voodoo Jürgens-Album.
A new phase Voodoo Jürgens Album.
Drei Jahre nach dem Meisterwerk Wie die Nocht noch jung wor meldet er sich darauf als Popstar wider Willen zurück. Letztes Jahr gewann er für die Hauptrolle in Adrian Goigingers Kinohit Rickerl den österreichischen Filmpreis als bester Hauptdarsteller. Für die Alben davor gab es reihenweise Amadeus Awards, sprich Austro-Grammys und all seine Touren im gesamten deutschsprachigen Raum sind regelmäßig ausverkauft.
Nun war es Zeit für eine erneute Standortbestimmung. Das Biotop Beisl war gestern. Gerade weil die zahlreichen Voodoo-Epigonen damit seit Jahren so gern haussieren gehen. Jetzt geht’s um die weite Welt die da draußen wartet. Und die kleine da drinnen: die in der eigenen Seele.
In Text und Sound geht es auf Gschnas für Voodoo um die eigene Autonomie, die Wiedergeburt der Inspiration, das freistrampeln von der typisch österreichischen Enge die einen nach unten drückt. Kurzum: es geht um alles. Mit welcher Energie er und seine on fire agierende Band dieses Husarenstück von einem Album reiten, mit welcher Spielfreude und welchem Selbstvertrauen hier ein Künstler neu denkt ohne dabei von sich erschlossenes aufzugeben und sich dabei selbst revitalisiert.
Exorzismus am offenen Herzen, quasi, und wir sind live dabei!
Dazu seine besten Melodien, seine wahrhaftigsten Texte, seine dringlichsten Performances, und eine Wolfgang Lehman (AKA Möstl)-Produktion, die für alle Involvierten nach Magnum Opus riecht. Das kann was. Und nicht nur das. Ein Album aus Zweifel geboren, für das es am Ende Faschingskrapfen regnet. Ein Album als Ereignis, in einer Zeit die sich selbst vergessen hat.
„Und alle sollen was davon haben!“ schreit uns Voodoo im vielleicht bislang gelungensten Song seiner Karriere beschwörend zu. Eine Self-fulfilling Prophecy. Oder auch: Voodoo Magie die wirkt und wirkt und wirkt…!

Kürzlich war Ex-Beastie-Boys-Mitglied Mike D schon einmal in Deutschland, um die von ihm mitkuratierte Ausstellung „Mishpocha. The Art of Collaboration“ im Jüdischen Museum in Frankfurt vorzustellen. In einem Interview mit dem „Spiegel“ zur Eröffnung sagte er: „Ich habe einen kollaborativen Background.
Ich denke oft über die Tatsache nach, dass man jemandem anderem einen Song schreiben oder vorspielen kann.“
Die wilde Kraft des künstlerischen Kollaborierens prägte das Werk der Beastie Boys – wenn Michael Diamond, Adam Yauch und Adam Horovitz in einem Raum waren und sich Ideen zuspielten, konnte grundsätzlich alles passieren.
Aber auch wenn Mike D Solo-Songs veröffentlichte, klangen diese immer ein Stückweit nach Teamsport. Und das gilt auch für die Konzerte, die Mike D im Sommer in Europa spielen wird.
Die Musik, die man dort erwarten darf, lässt sich wohl am besten als „Psych Jazz Funk“ beschreiben, wie man ihn sonst nur in den spannenden, wilden Ecken des Jazz findet.

Former Beastie Boys member Mike D was recently in Germany to present the exhibition “Mishpocha. The Art of Collaboration,” which he co-curated, at the Jewish Museum in Frankfurt. In an interview with "Der Spiegel" on the occasion of the opening, he said: “I have a background in collaboration. I often think about the fact that you can write a song for someone else or play it for them. ”
The wild power of artistic collaboration shaped the Beastie Boys’ work—when Michael Diamond, Adam Yauch, and Adam Horovitz were in a room passing ideas back and forth, anything could happen.
But even when Mike D released solo songs, they always sounded a bit like a team sport. And that also applies to the concerts Mike D will be playing in Europe this summer.

For this special Berlin show, we will be joined by virtuosic jazz performers Pier Luigi Salami (piano, synths) and Jonathan Strauch (saxophone, multi-instrumentalist), performing together as a live band for the first time. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, Pier has toured internationally across Europe and the USA and recorded Hikâye, The One, Haiku, and all piano pieces for Santi & Tuğçe, bringing a deeper dimension to the live interpretation of the music.
Joining us is Judith Ahrends, a Berlin-based musician and producer whose work blends analog synthesizers, textured vocals, and elements of electronic music and pop. Moving between club-oriented rhythms and more intimate moments, her live sets are both raw and expressive.
